Objective

Nigerian Community In Milwaukee, Inc., NCIM, is a non-profit community-based organization which started in the 1980s as an informal forum for Nigerian students and educators in various institutions of higher learning in the Milwaukee area to meet and interact with each other and the larger community. In 1991, NCIM was formally incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our main focus is to provide positive contributions to the overall development of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin.

SCHOLARSHIP Objective: To encourage young people of African descent in our communities to continue their education so they may become better educated citizens.

 WHO QUALIFIES: Any high school senior of African descent in the metro Milwaukee area including Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, will be considered.

Available Scholarships

  1. Toki & Associates, Inc. Scholarship — STEM majors.
  2. Ladidi Saratu Garba & NCIM Scholarship — IT, Engineering, Business, or Medicine major.
  3. North-Shore Rotary Club, Mr. Fola Abioye Family & NCIM Scholarship — all majors.
  4. Nigerian Community In Milwaukee, Inc. Scholarship — all majors.

Scholarship Amount

A one-time award of $1,000 to study in any college, as described above under “Available Scholarships”.

The award will be presented at the Nigeria Day celebration in early October.

Application Process

An application form is on page 2 of this document. Applications are also available from the “Community” link on the NCIM website (www.ncimusa.org). The completed application should cover the following:

  1. Biographical Information, (including a wallet-sized photo).
  2. Transcripts of high school grades.
  3. Career Goal Statement (approximately 100 words).
  4. Honors and Awards
  5. Essay on “The African American Struggle for Higher Education” (no more than 500 words)
  6. Letter of recommendation from at least one of the following: guidance counselor, community leader or teacher.
  7. College Acceptance Letter.

All completed applications should be returned to the NCIM Office:

The final selection is made by the NCIM Scholarship Committee with the approval of the NCIM general members. All decisions are final.
